In collaboration with Gemini and occasionally Claude, I wanted to build a portfolio site that wasn’t the typical standard design.
Why I created this
In a time where product design is very saturated, I wanted to create something out of the ordinary, especially when most designers use the same portfolio UI template.
Issues I encountered
I sent this to a friend to take a look, and their first thought was that I’d sent them a virus.
Although the UI was adjusted to be viewable from the phone, it wasn’t the best experience due to the constrained UI sizing.
Keeping the terminal UI consistent throughout the site was hard, especially once a portfolio piece got content-heavy.
What I learned
Even though the industry boasts about Claude Code, if your project isn’t too big and your budget is tight, Gemini is still a good friend to use. Where there were steps in the code I didn’t understand, Gemini would break it down for me or send me the entire replacement code. It probably can’t build as complex experiences, but it’s a good option to experiment with.
